Urban Garden Kennington

Client Brief

The client wanted to claim back their garden which had become overgrown and rather wild.
An area for planting and a seating area was required to relax & entertain in. The emphasis was on a simple low maintenance garden where their time could be spent enjoying the garden rather than maintaining it.

Design & Solution

The design was to be of a simple layout where the client could see down the whole garden from their window. Given the proportions of the garden ie long and narrow, simplicity of layout was key in order to maximise the space. The garden was cleared of all growth and weeds, and a raised bed at the rear was built with railway sleepers, providing a focal point in which to plant. A recess was created with the sleepers in which to position a seat, enabling the client to sit surrounded by colourful scented plants. A smaller raised bed was built around an existing bay tree. A weed suppressant membrane was laid onto the remaining area, and then covered with Cotswold stone pebbles. The combination of sleepers and Cotswold stone gives a relaxed neutral backdrop ready for the client's choice of garden furniture, pots and plants. The overall result is a simple crisp  low maintenance garden with clean lines.
